Route Notes

Scotmaps have been producing route notes for the Scottish Rally Championship since 1997. The notes have been hailed by competitors as the most consistent route notes they have ever used and been able to commit to so readily.

In 2006 Scotmaps were invited to South Africa along with other route note providers from around the globe to demonstrate the route notes for the national Championship. Scotmaps were successful in winning the contract and have been providing the route notes to the South African Rally Championship since 2007.

On a recent survey over 73% of competitors rated the ‘consistency of route notes’ as the most important factor in choosing a route notes supplier. Scotmaps have clearly outshone any competitors in this area with a massive 95% of respondents rating Scotmaps as Good or Very Good in route note consistency compared to the nearest competitor who achieved only 33.4%. 

Pre-event preparation

One of the key reasons why Scotmaps route notes are favoured so much is the diligence of the team to ensure they are providing a top quality service to the customers.

Scotmaps will recce every event in the few weeks beforehand no matter how many times notes have been made for the same stages. We understand that the forests are living environments that will change in a matter of days. The same stands for public tarmac roads which can have subtle changes year on year. 

On Event service

An additional service Scotmaps offers, is the provision of an ‘on event’ representative who will answer any competitors’ queries and also perform a run through the stages the day before the rally. In previous events this has proved crucial to the smooth running of the rally due to the identification of; ice on the stages, recent logging and even re-grading in the few days before the event. All of the information is then communicated back to the competitors.

Drivers Briefing

On the evening before the rally or the morning of the event Bill Sturrock will host a drivers briefing. This gives competitors the opportunity to discuss any amendments that have been issued. All of this and the opportunity for the competitors to ask questions regarding the conditions of the stages ensure less accidents and a higher finishing rate for the event organisers.

Emergency Route note service

At the request of the event or the championship Scotmaps can provide an emergency route note service should conditions demand. This can be performed after excessive rainfall or a severe drop in temperatures which can increase the chance of ice. Scotmaps will issue amendments on a stage by stage basis should they be required.

Risk reduction

Scotmaps hold public liability insurance and specialist professional indemnity insurance specifically for the route note system they provide. This ensures the events and championships are relinquished from any risk, protecting the future of the rally.
